How old do I have to be to enroll in the Driver’s Education Program?

Students should be a minimum of 15 years and 3 months in order to understand the material presented. This will provide you adequate time to complete both the Driver Education and Behind-the-Wheel training along with the additional State of California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requirements by your 16th birthday. You cannot obtain your drivers permit however, until you are at least 15 1/2 years old which may result in you having to wait for several weeks after completing the classroom portion until you are able to take the written test. This is why it is best to wait until you are closer to or have reached the 15 years and 6 months age in order to take the class.

You must have your DMV Permit for 6 months before you are allowed to take the driving test to obtain your Provisional License.
